ABOUT THE EVENT

10.00am:Warehouse421, “THE WEFT IN PENCIL” by JILL MAGI

The paintings and fabric works in “The Weft in Pencil” are rooted in the grid or matrix—the intersection of warp and weft, the editorial grid of the page, the weaver’s draft notations—as a generative space.

Jill Magi works in text, image, and textile. The author of six books of poetry and numerous handmade books and book-arts objects housed at the University at Buffalo Poetry Collection,

Jill has had solo exhibitions of visual work at the NYU Abu Dhabi Project Space Gallery, Tashkeel, and Grey Noise, and has been included in group shows in numerous galleries including Tashkeel, Apex Art, the Brooklyn Arts Council, and the Brooklyn Textile Arts Center.

10.30am: Warehouse421, “NYUAD MFA Exhibition"

This exhibition showcase projects and artworks from the first-year MFA students of NYUAD inaugural class of 2023.

NYU Abu Dhabi's Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Art and Media is a terminal degree in the visual arts.

11.30am: NYUAD Art Gallery, PARTHENOGENESIS  by

RAMIN HAERIZADEH, ROKNI HAERIZADEH &HESAM RAHMANIAN

Parthenogenesis is a testament to the artists’ 13 years in Dubai living and working together, creating a landscape and tapestry of continuously evolving ideas and dialogues with collaborators, artists, and visitors to their home, and offering a deeper insight into their practice rooted in ideas of transformation, play, and collaboration.

Comprising several major new bodies of work, Parthenogenesis marks the artist trio’s first solo show at a UAE institution.

Ramin, Rokni, and Hesam, originally from Iran, have adopted the UAE as their home. They are known for their immersive, surreal projects, performances, paintings, and animations, which have exhibited internationally, at multiple biennials and major museums.

Tour led by Maya Allison, NYUAD art gallery executive director.

12.30pm: an invitation to a light lunch

2.30pm: Manarat Al Saadyat, The Terrace, DISCONNECT-RECONNECT

Seven UAE based artists respond to the post pandemic zeitgeist: memories of an invisible virus that forced everyone to disconnect, coupled with a quest for rebalancing connections with the self and the external world.

Tour led by Madiha Bakir, the curator, in the presence of some of the artists.

3.30pm: Manarat Al Saadyat, Gallery A,

showCACE 2022

Zayed University’s College of Arts and Creative Enterprises senior graduates exhibition.

Tour led by Walter Willems in the presence of some of the artists.
