Dear members,

As the New Year has emerged with all its promises, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the old members and the new ones who joined our circle of art lovers, and wish you all an enjoyable and exciting new season with all the activities we have in store for you.

We will kick-start the season with a full day in Sharjah, and immerse ourselves in the “Temporary Museum For Palestine” as conceived by Hazem Harb, and catch up on the Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival throughout the city.

CULTURAL DAY IN SHARJAH
12th January 2022 @ 10.30am- 5pm

10.30 am

TEMPORARY MUSEUM. FOR PALESTINE” BY HAZEM HARB

AT MARAYA ART CENTER

It is the title of Hazem Harb’s first institutional solo exhibition in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In this immersive exhibition experience, the artist attempts to capture the lost legacies of his home country, Palestine, in the form of archival materials being displayed in vitrine cases within a museological context.  Using collage-based techniques that incorporate photography and mixed media on a grand scale, the artist pieces together a temporary museum that showcases the fragmentariness of Palestine’s history.

Curated by Cima Azzam, at Maraya Art Centre, this exhibition presents the artist’s deep reflection on his roots between past, present and future.

Letter from our member Hanadi

There are so many fond memories to choose from, but my favourite would be my childhood one in my parent's house in Sidon-Lebanon where there was an inner courtyard, with grass in the middle and surrounded trees.

In the courtyard, I would place a mirror on my lap to look into the far travelling clouds. I enjoyed more the perspective of the images reflected in my mirror rather than their actual reality.  I made a tight bond with the imaginary shapes and shadows with an inner instinct that life is subjective.
